Day-Before Race Prep I survived three days off from training...just barely though. And I believe I succeeded with my Glycogen Loading plan because I ate lots of healthy calories and carbs and gained the 2 pounds that was predicted. YAY! We went up to the city today for pre-race packet pick-up, which ended up being a sports bag filled with goodies..guess that's what you get for your $500 race registration fee. LOL. All in all, I am feeling fairly good about tomorrow's race. Hoping against the odds to get decent night's sleep although that usually remains elusive given my abnormal sleep patterns and...

Reflections on Alcatraz Wow, what an event! The 2009 Escape from Alcatraz was a journey within a greater journey for me. It all started back in November 2008. I had recently completed my first triathlon ever (2008 San Francisco at Treasure Island) and had barely survived the run. In fact, that 6 mile race run was the longest outdoor run I had ever done in my adult life... yes, you can infer that I did not properly train for the event but I was literally just doing the triathlon because of John's interest in training together for it.
