Since I was free until my 6:00pm class today, I decided to venture up into the city and scope out the run trail for the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon coming up on June 14th. I had the map printout and description of the course in my shirt along with my car key and two energy gels and then I was off from Chrissy Field parking lot. I made it to Fort Point with no issues (not too difficult considering its a straight trail) but then my navigational skills were called into question. The description said to go up and under the bridge to the Coastal trail but I think I overshot by running all of the way to the actual Fort Point building. Then there was a trail that went up and under the bridge but it didn't feel like the actual course trail (there were a bunch of detour signs). Anyway, once on the Coast trail, I followed the signs to Baker Beach and made it there. Then the run on the beach to the dreaded Sand Ladder. Boy, they weren't joking, it is tough! I decided to do the Sand Ladder ->Baker Beach loop 3 times. First time was awful, second time was better and third time was awful again! So I decided to make my way back. I should have realized that Lincoln Blvd was the road in front of me but I ended up going back the same way I came in. So the distance was a lot shorter than if I can gone back on the road. I sprinted out the last mile on the flats getting up to around 8.4mph which is super fast for me...guess the hill training really does increase speed!!
- RUN: Alcatraz training run course (modified). 8.3miles.
- Kickboxing Bootcamp: 60min. Taught class.
